Sri Peta Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Kurnool

Nestled in the heart of old Kurnool town on the sacred banks of the Tungabhadra river, this is one of the most ancient temples of the Rayalaseema region, with origins tracing back to the 13th century AD. The temple was consecrated by Sri Narahari Theertharu, the second disciple of Sri Madhwacharya and third Pontiff of Sri Uttaradhi Mutt, during his spiritual journey through Andhra preaching Dvaita philosophy — making this one of the earliest Anjaneya installations in Andhra Pradesh, predating even the temples consecrated by Sri Vyasarajaru by nearly two centuries. This is recorded in the Government Gazette.

The annual Vaarshika Brahmotsavam was established in 1927 by Sri Munji Lakshmanacharya, who served this temple for sixty uninterrupted years, following divine direction to conduct the Brahmotsavam on the lines of Tirumala for the prosperity of devotees. This sacred tradition continues uninterrupted to this day — now approaching its 99th year.
